So last night a friend and I went and saw the bad PVRIS at the Uptown Theater with openers Sizzy Rocket and Pale Waves. I know it’s not the hardest of rock concerts, or at least you’d think. But! PAVRIS knocked it out of the park! It was my first time at Uptown Theater, and it was pretty mid as a venue. It doesn’t really try to stand out, there’s no real charm to it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s bad, but it doesn’t stand out either. It serves it’s purpose.
Sizzy Rocket

I’ve never heard of Sizzy Rocket before, and I’m probably not going to be listening much after. I’m not knocking Sizzy personally, this is just based on music alone. I’m not a fan. Her songs are geared towards sex songs, which is fine in and of itself, but gosh darn it! You don’t have to try so hard. The performance comes off as someone wanting to be edgy, and it’s not… it’s really not. If you want to check out bands that have some sex songs, check out In this Moment or Måneskin. I’ll say this as a positive, she looked comfortable on stage, and that takes confidence. So good on Sizzy Rocket for that!
Pale Waves

To be honest with you, I came to this concert to see Pale Waves. They have more of a Pop Rock vibe, but their music is fun for a casual listen. They hold up just as well live as they do in their recordings.
Pale Waves consists of Heather Baron-Gracie the founder and lead vocals of the band. She also plays guitar. Her vocal performance was solid. Ciara Doran on drums was probably the highlight of the band. I don’t know what it is this year, but drummers are killing it. Hugo Silvani on guitar was good, and Charlie Wood on bass was solid.
I have to be honest with you dear reader, I have never seen a band so disinterested in performing while at the same time playing so well. I don’t know what it was, but just looking at them up on stage it was clear that either something happened before the show, or they just did not want to be there.
PVRIS

After two pretty mid openers for this show, I was questioning if PVRIS would be able to bring up the mood. My friend knew this band better than I and he told me they were good, so I thought I’d give them a shot. And gosh golly am I sure glad I did! PVRIS owned the night!
PVRIS is lead by vocalist Lynn Gunn, and dang does she know how to rock the stage! From what little research I did while writing this, it appears as though the others involved are touring musicians. Lynn is the only core member of the band.

The energy PVRIS brought to the stage saved the night. Lynn Gunn knows how to command a stage. Unlike Pale Waves, PVRIS looked like they were having fun and it was infectious for the crowd. Burn The Witch was a standout song and it went hard. From what I’ve looked up about the band, they seem to get labled more in the Pop realm, but I assure you it was very much a Rock act.
Towards the end of the set it was a little funny they had to pause the concert so one of the band memebers could take a bathroom break. Lynn had the crowd cheer his name to come back out. Gotta love fun little moments like these at concerts. Sizzy Rocket came out at the end and played with PVRIS, and it was probably the best Sizzy Rocket did in my opinion.
Even though the concert started off rocky, it ended on a high note. I’m probably not going to listen to Sizzy Rocket personally, but I wish her well. I still like Pale Waves, but after that performance, I’m not sure if I’d want to see them again. PVRIS however has found a new fan.
