Intorduction
This is just a breif highlights of some stories in the Rock and Metal world that have stood out to me over the past year. What a year it has been for the Rock and Metal scene! Some good, some bad. But the music just keeps on coming. This list isn’t to show every little detail, but just highlight some stories that stood out to me.
Paramore Goes Independent
After serval years being under contract, Paramore has gone independent. They are the masters of their own destiny and it will be exciting to see what the future holds for the band. They now have the opportunity to explore their muisc at their own pace and this gives them creative freedom.
I’m not sure how many constraints they were under with Atlantic Records, but now whatever constraints were there, are gone. A Paramore with complete freedom to express their music in whatever voice they choose will be interesting.
Linkin Park Makes a Comeback
It has been seven years since Cherster Bennington’s death. I think it was wise for Linkin Park to take some time off and not jump back into things. But, time has passed and they are making their comeback. Some people were nervious about them returning to the Rock world with Emily Armstrong fronting the band, but I must say, she was the right choice.
The band has returned in full force and most of the Rock world has embraced them. Their new music harkens back to what they once were but also pushes forward to what they are to become. I think this was a solid choice having Emily be the new vocalist, and adds a new dimension to their music.
Gojira Plays Olympics
Perhaps one of the biggest stories in Metal this year was Gojira playing at the Olympics. Gojira, a French Metal Band got the oppertunity to perform in the opening ceremony for the Olympics. It’s not often a Metal band gets to be featured on the world stage, but Gojira has earned their spot. They did an excellent performance.
How this will impact the metal world going forward will be an interesting observation, but it was fun to watch a talent such as themselves to be on display. It was also nice to see French culture give a nod to their Metal community.
Bob Bryar Dies
The drummer from My Chemical Romance mostly known for being on The Black Parade died this Autumn. His drumming was important to The Black Parade and this is big for any My Chem fan. I don’t know much about the personal lives of the band memebers, but it is sad to see one of them go.
Nightwish First Album without Marco
Nightwish is a band that has gone through many, and I mean many chages. They have switched their lead vocalist at least three times. Marco Hietala joined the band back in 2002 and while not an original member, he was a staple of the band. He departed in 2021, and Nightwish has released their first album without him, Yesterwynde.
No matter the changes, the band keeps moving forward. They know how to stay and adapt. I still personally miss Marco in the band, but I understand why he left. He is missed, but the band will keep going.
