It’s that time of year again! The air is crisp, the leaves have changed colors, and the ghosts have come out. The time has come for Halloween. It’s easily one of my favorite holidays, and for many other people as well.
There is a sliding scale on how much or little you can do with the holiday. There are fewer expectations, because it is more casual. You don’t have to cook a huge meal, no buying presents, no long travel. You can do all of those if you want, but no one expects you to do it.
It’s the one day a year you can dress up as pretty much anything and everyone is chill with it. We all can be a little silly or freaky if we so desire. The costumes are a wide range, and there are so many options to choose from. Doesn’t matter if you’re a kid or an adult, we all can enjoy dressing up for the holiday.
When you’re a kid, there’s trick or treating. I remember when I was a kid, there was nothing better than going from house to house getting free candy. I’d go with one of my friends, and we’d feast on candy after and watch halloween specials. This is a pretty unique activity, and one that I hope survives. It’s a ton of fun, and when I have kids someday, I plan on taking them out trick or treating.
When you get a little older, there are costume parties. These can be more formal or informal. There could be games, and music. There could be snacks, and movies. You get to hangout with your friends and indulge in the spooky aspects of culture together.
If you’re feeling bold, haunted houses are always a good option. It’s a fun thrill that will make for a memorable night. These only come into season once a year and for a few weekends typically. You might go to a home haunt, where one of your neighbors puts one on, or a professional one. It’s bound to be a scarey good time.
Yard decorating doesn’t just belong to Christmas. Halloween yard decorating is also fun. Some people really go all out, and the design they craft is amazing. Again, it is a sliding scale if you decide you wanna do this. Some people do a lot, some do a little. And any which way is perfectly ok!
There are so many options for this holiday, you really can make it your own. Remember this coming halloween, watch a scarey movie, pass out some candy, put up the cobwebs, and just have some fun.
