It’s almost cliche to say alternative people would be hanging out in a cemetery, but believe it or not there is fun to be had! This isn’t particular to one subculture or another, but this could give you some ideas to have a fun filled day.
As a side note, not all cemeteries permit these activities. Make sure the cemetery you are considering doing one of these activities allows you to do it. Respect the rules and clean up after yourself. This list is in no particular order.
1. Ghost Hunting

Ghost Hunting is probably one of the most obvious activities to do in a cemetery. Break out the flashlights and voice recorders. Best time would be to go at sunset or at night. Bring a couple friends along. Ask some questions and wait for a response. You just might be surprised what you hear!
2. Have a Picnic

Cemetery picnics used to be a very common activity enjoyed by the masses. These days, not so much. But don’t let those killjoys stop you! We have a whole article here if you want to enjoy a cemetery picnic. This could make a great time to enjoy for a day out with friends, or even a great date with that spooky person in your life.
3. Headstone Cleaning
One activity that might not be so obvious would be taking the time to find old headstones and clean them. Best practice would probably do this with older headstones of 100 years from date of death. Some families may not wish for their loved ones to be touched and you should respect that. But if you think it might be interesting to clean off a headstone, this could be very meditative. Enjoy the nature around you, or throw on some earbuds and listen to your favorite tunes. If you want to try this out, we found this video to help you get started.
4. Photography

If you have an artistic side, this might be a fun way to express it. For you photographer goths, emos, meatheads, punks, etc… have you ever considered taking photos in a cemetery? Some of the headstones are true works of art and the statue work can be jaw-dropping. This might just be the next best place for a photoshoot, model or no model. Again, make sure to be respectful and hold to a code of ethics regarding this type of photography.
5. Geaneology

If you have any interest in family history, why not consider visiting the graves of those you have been researching? Think of it like a scavenger hunt. There are some people you will come across where you may find the cemetery, but the exact location of the grave remains a mystery. Are you up to the challenge to find it?
