If you’ve been looking for a more spooky tv show to watch this Fall, look no further! We’ve put together a short list of 5 Spooky TV Shows for you to check out. These are not in any particular order, but they are well worth the watch.
Supernatural
Supernatural was a powerhouse of a show that ran for 15 seasons. And with talks of it’s possible return, this show deserves to be mentioned. The series follows brothers Sam and Dean Winchester as they travel across America hunting monsters in their 1967 Impala. They make friends, and loose some along the way.
Given how much content is in this show, I can’t go further into a synopsis without treading into spoiler territory. Supernatural has its ups and downs, but it’s a good show overall. In my personal opinion seasons 1-5 are the best. Even though some of my favorite characters are from later seasons.
This show likes to dip into the spookier side of Americana, and it’s a powerhouse at it. If you’re looking for a longer series to start watching, then Supernatural is well worth your time.
Carnivàle
Carnivàle is a show that may have dipped under your radad, as it only ran for 2 seasons. The series takes place in the 1930s as Ben Hawkins is picked up by a traveling carnival, but Supernatural forces of light and dark are at work here, and they must face them.
This show didn’t get nearly enough time to tell the story it wanted. It’s a real bummer becasue its a good show. There are a few terrifying moments in this series, and the lore. Oh! The lore! The show builds upon itself at a decent pace.
If you like the look or aesthetic of a carnival, especially on the spookier side of things, then Carnivàle is well worth checking out. It won’t take you long to get through the series, but you’ll be glad you did.
Penny Dreadful
Penny Dreadful is perhaps one of the most underrated shows I’ve ever seen. It ran for 3 seasons, but deserved so much more. The series follow Vanesa Ives, Ethan Chandler, Sir Malcom Murray, Dorian Gray, Dr. Victor Frankenstien, and a whole host of other characters as they face off against the dark forces encroaching upon London and themselves.
Everyon in this show does a good job, but Eva Green as Vanesa Ives is the star. She gave one of the best performances of her life in this series, and it’s a pitty that not enough people have seen it. I will admit though, I’m not the biggest fan of episode 1 of this show, but I was hooked by the end of episode 2.
If you’ve been looking for something that dips into the Victorian Gothic, this show is perfect. It crosses many characters from classic gothic literature. I recommend this series to anyone I can, because it deserves more viewers.
American Horror Story
American Horror Story has been around for a while, and if you’re a horror fan you’ve probably caught some of this show. The series as of writing this has 12 seasons. It’s an anthology show, with each season telling a different story.
Some of the cast is the same from season to season, but there are change ups and not everyone stays. Some seasons of American Horror Story are better than others. My personal favorite are the first two. The series did take a dip for a bit, but it did bounce back a little.
There is something iconic about American Horror story, and it’s worth checking out at least once. The nice part about it being an anthology is you can pick whichever season you want to start on. Read the synopsis of each, and take your pick.
True Blood
True Blood is an HBO classic of a vampire story. It ran for 7 seasons. The series follows Sookie Stackhouse and her vampire boyfriend Bill Compton, as they come across many supernatural threats.
The early seasons of the show are amazing! However, it does get a little much in the latter seasons with all the stuff they add. But, all in all I do think it’s worth the watch. The cast know their characters, and they play them well.
If vampires are your thing, True Blood is a must watch. The opening theme is a tune that just gets stuck in your head. Not my typical genre, but I find myself listening to it once and a while. If you’re looking to start a vampire series, True Blood might just be the right one for you.
