Alternative subcultures are largely music based, and if you found your way into our little pocket of reality, why not consider taking the next step and learn to play an instrument.
This in itself can be an awarding effort. It feels awesome to be able to play along with your favorite songs. Though the journey can be long and hard and it’s usually a lifetime commitment. You can do this as a casual pastime or it could even lead to being in a band.
Options are pleantiful. Guitars are perhaps the most common instrument to learn. Don’t think you’ll be able to start shreding on your first lesson. That will come in time. Bass guitars, and drums are the next common for being in the rock and metal scene. Don’t be affraid to venture out though and play something not as common like a violin or the bagpipes. You’ll be surprised what kind of bands you’ll find out there.
Learning an instrument is often a lifetime journey. Practice your scales, and learn the basics. It can take years to get to the level you want, but don’t let that get to you. You can start young or old. It doesn’t matter when you start, only that you do start.
There are different methods to learning. You could go the self taught route where you get materials such as books or videos. There are some video games that exist to teach you how to play too. You can also go a more traditional route too and get lessons from a music teacher. Check your local area for music teachers. You’ll probably be surprised what you find.
This is a lifetime passion and it’s worth every second. There might be times where you fall off from playing, but so long as you get back at it, that’s all that matters.
