Yes, the title is cheesy. But you clicked on it! If you need a quick date idea, this is a fun simple one you can do. Granted, for this one to work, you both need to be musicians. The idea is simple, pick a song you both like, and learn to play it together. But we can break this down a little more.
This date is a good one for late morning or early afternoon, and could easily lead into something else, like grabbing a bite or going to a concert after. But one thing you want to be sure of before you do anything, is that you’re both at the same level of musicianship at your own insturments. Nothing will start a fight faster than if one person is a beginner and one person is advanced. If you’re both beginners, cool. If you’re both advanced, cool. Just make sure you can play at the same level. This means you’ll probably learn to play the song at the same pace, and thus it’s more likely to go smoother.
Once you got that down, now it’s time to pick a song. You and yours probably have at least a couple bands in common, or songs. Find one you both really enjoy. I’m not saying casually, I’m saying really. Like, you know every word, and could know which song it is from the first note. If you’re both invested in the song this much, both of you will be more likely to be enthused to try and learn it. Think of mood when you are picking the song. How do you want this date to go? Do you want something light and fun, or deep and personal? This is up to you guys, but setting the tone is a good idea beforehand.
Now, choose your method of learning. Are you guys going to try and learn it by ear? Watch the band play the song? Or follow a tutorial online. There is no wrong answer, but have this picked out before you start.
Have something to drink and maybe some light snacks off to the side. Nothing messy though, respect your insturments. This is optional, but not a bad idea.
Now it’s time to meet up and jam! Have fun you two 😉
