Sometimes you and your significant other want a nice night in for date night. But what spooky activity could you partake? What are your possible options? Fear not! For Mr. Macabre has your back. May we present to you, the Spooky Podcast Date.
This might be more thematic for Fall, however this could be done at any time of the year. Especially if there is bad weather and your going out plans were spoiled. Heck, even if you just don’t feel like going out, but want a cozy night in.
Some prep is in order for this date. Now, you can scale this to be as in-depth or as simple as you want. The basic idea is to cozy up together, have a snack, and listen to a podcast. Bam! Done! But, wait… let’s play this out with a little extra effort.
Start in the early afternoon preping for this. There are tons of recipies out there to fit a spooky snack mood. From carmel corn, to candy apples the options are endless. But, if you want a quick go to without having to do much in the way of cooking or baking, I’d recommend plain old popcorn. It’s simple and everyone likes it.
Next would be a speaker. When we typically listen to podcasts its usually when we have headphones or earbuds on, or when we’re in the car. But since this is a shared expirence, an actual speaker is ideal. Back in the day our grandparents generation used to sit around the radio listening to shows, and it can be fun to envoke a vintage feel. I personally use the Victrola Willow Retro Wood Radio, but there are others out there. Heck, some people even do diy builds of their own vintage speakers. It could be a fun project for yourself if you’re the more handy type.
The last step would be finding a podcast. There are loads to chose from out there for horror right now. I’ll give three that I listen to as recomendations. First up is, Old Gods of Appalachia. This anthology series gives us a new chilling tale each season in the alternate history of Appalachia. I’ve listened to the first season and I think it’s a fun one. Second, we have Borrasca. This thriller stars Cole Sprouse as Sam. When his family moves into town, Sam begins to notice kids are disappearing. What’s causing it? And finally, I’ll give you, The Black Tapes. This was the first horroresque podcast I ever listened to and I must say the story slowly sucks you in. I can’t say a ton, least there be spoilers.
Alright, you have your snacks, a vintage style speaker, and a podcast. You’re basically set at this point. The final thing you should consider is getting cozy. Perhaps you lovebirds should get your pajamas on and curl up together on the couch with some blankets. You’re ready for a nice spooky night in. Enjoy!
