The Chats are a three piece punk band from Australia. They were formed in 2016 and have two studio albums to date. The have done world tours before, and are further proof that Australia has a killer music scene that needs to be appreciated by the wider community.
I personally haven’t delved very deep into the punk genre, but I feel like if you are wanting to hear a modern punk band, The Chats would be a good place to start. The have fast and punchy songs with a classic punk attitude.
The band describes itself as “Shed Rock” which I’m not really familiar with that term, but if they made it up, I could see why. Their songs are pretty fun to listen to and their music videos are playful.
Struck by Lightning was the song that introduced me to the band. They have a classic fast paced tempo for this genre and they stick to a good core sound. The guitar hits, the bass slaps, the drums are exciting, and the vocals grab you.
The chats are worth checking out for new and old punks alike.
