Campfire Anthology Horror Storytelling Game Review

Campfire is a cooperative anthology Storytelling game. I will be giving this review based on my own experience. I can’t across this browsing my local game store and thought, why not? I bought a copy and brought it to my game group.

It took us a while to get through the instructions. I think they could be more clearly laid out than they currently are. But once we learned them, the game got going pretty quick.

The game cloth and metal tokens have a really cool design to them. They do a great job at setting the atmosphere and tone of the game. I don’t think the cloth is needed to play the game, but it adds a cool element.

The notepad has a neat design to it, but it’s too dark to write over we thought. We ended up using a regular notepad instead. If there’s a second edition of the game, I would recommend to the developers to look at updating the notepad that comes with the game.

Campfire comes with eight scenarios to play. We found the premise of each unique enough and compelling. This is a game that could easily have expansions added to it. I’m not sure if it’s planned, but it seems a natural progression for the game. We played “Flutter” and it took us a minute to get used to the rules but once we did we ended up having a good amount of fun.

There was laughs, there was horror, and one of our players ended up having a dream about it. The game took about an hour to play.

If you’re looking for a fun narrative experience, I think campfire is worth a shot. Just make sure to get a thorough read through of the rules before play and you should have a nice spooky night on your hands.
